Abstract

The negative impact of smoking on health has been accumulating for centuries. Positively associated with more than 40 diseases or causes of death, tobacco is definitely considered a risk factor. Tobacco control aims to reduce the prevalence of tobacco use. The WHO FCTC provides specific measures for governments addressing tobacco use. Smoking cessation is considered beneficial at any age improving health status and enhancing quality of life. Despite tobacco control measures the smoking prevalence worldwide stays high. In this article we aim to discuss tobacco issues, smoking cessation strategies as well as tobacco harm reduction.
