Abstract

Malignant melanoma is one of the most malignant and difficult to treat types of skin cancer, which originates from the pigment cells – melanocytes. It is characterized by rapid growth, early metastasis and poor sensitivity to chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The last decade marked a huge upsurge in the treatment of malignant melanoma by introducing immunotherapy into real clinical practice. This article will review the possibilities of different checkpoint inhibitors and illustrate the place of immunotherapy in the treatment of malignant melanoma through a case from routine clinical work.
